Rigid Flex Circuit Boards Categories and Structure

Depending upon the specifications and the requirements that are needed for the circuit boards, various kinds of rigid-flex circuit boards are constructed to meet the customer needs which are explained as follows:

    Single Sided Flex Circuit Board

These kinds of Rigid-Flex Circuit Boards are the most basic type of boards which consists of a flexible dielectric film which is laminated by a single copper sheet. For additional protection and insulation, polyimide overlays are added to it. They are used where there is a limitation of space or thickness and also in dynamic flexing applications, etc.

These kinds of boards which are Rigid-Flex Circuit Boards provide with heat sink applications, rigid-flex with HDI, innovative rigid-flex processes, etc. The material is treated by immersing in the gold treatment solution while designing.

    4 Layered Rigid-Flex Board

This consists of a single flexible layer which is manufactured to create an interaction between the electronic material and the flexible board. Laser technology is used for the creation of trace patterns. They are widely used in GPS, led lighting, consumer electronics, etc.

To increase the stiffness of the board this kind of board is used along with Kaplan stiffener. It is used in extreme temperature conditions. Also, it is used in flame retardant, chemical and radiation-resistant, etc.

    8 Layered Rigid-Flex Board

It allows for the components to be easily fitted on the board by decreasing the delivery time. Proper planning is required to increase the number of circuits on the board. Testing and further inspection of the material will increase the efficiency of the board.

    14 Layered Rigid-Flex PCB

These boards comprises of flexible inner layers that are attached to a film known as prepreg film. They are equipped with a board that can be equipped externally or internally or on both sides. They are used in automobiles, medical devices, telecommunications, etc.

 1 2 Layered Rigid-Flex Printed Boards

It is a combination of FR4 material and polyimide which offers you with thermal stability and excellent electrical insulation. It helps avoiding overheating by ensuring greater performance quality of solder joints, traces, connectors, etc. They are vacuum packed to avoid the damages that are caused during transportation.

     4 Layered Rigid-Flex Board

They are ideally used for surface mount devices and ball grid arrays. They are used for the products which need high-temperature resistance. They are available in various shapes and sizes. They are soldered to the nickel layer which creates a barrier over the copper layer. The size of the board, as well as the weight, is quite low in these boards.

     6 Layered Rigid-Flex Board

They are usually used in the automobile and power industry. Annealed copper is used in these circuit boards. Flexibility is the foremost feature of these boards. The engineers have enough freedom in designing of especially these kinds of boards.
These are the various kinds of flex boards which are used depending on the specification provided by the client.
